Global EV Sales Reach 1.85 Million in July as Europe Leads Growth
Global sales of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 1.85 million units in July 2026, according to data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
The figure represents a 9 percent increase compared with July 2025 and marks the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year global EV sales growth.
Europe Drives the Global Increase
Europe was the strongest major region during July, with EV sales increasing by approximately 33 percent year over year.
Strong demand in European markets helped offset declines in China and North America.
China EV Sales Decline
China remains the world's largest electric vehicle market, but EV sales declined by approximately 5 percent in July compared with the same month last year.
Chinese automakers are increasingly looking toward overseas markets as competition and economic pressures continue to affect the domestic market.
North America Faces a Bigger Decline
North American EV sales dropped sharply in July, with the region recording a decline of approximately 27 percent year over year.
The US market has been affected by changes to federal EV incentives, while automakers are adjusting their pricing and product strategies.
The EV Market Continues to Expand
Despite regional differences, the global market remains on a growth trajectory.
Europe is accelerating, China remains the world's largest EV market, and North America is experiencing a significant slowdown.
The latest figures show that electric vehicles continue to gain ground globally, although the pace of adoption increasingly depends on local incentives, pricing and consumer demand.
