BYD has officially opened pre-orders for its new flagship electric sedan, the Da Han EV, introducing a large luxury EV that combines an impressive 1,008 km CLTC range, ultra-fast charging technology and a surprisingly competitive starting price.
The new electric sedan made its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, where BYD revealed three fully electric versions with pre-sale prices ranging from 249,900 yuan to 299,900 yuan.
That places the Da Han in a highly competitive position for a premium electric sedan, particularly considering its enormous range and high-performance technology.
A 1,008km Electric Range
The biggest headline surrounding the BYD Da Han is its claimed range.
The rear-wheel-drive versions can travel up to 1,008 km on the CLTC testing cycle, putting the Da Han among the longest-range battery-electric sedans currently available in China.
The all-wheel-drive flagship version offers a claimed 880 km CLTC range.
The Da Han uses BYD's latest-generation Blade Battery technology, with battery capacity reported at more than 102 kWh for the long-range configuration.
However, it is important to note that the CLTC testing standard generally produces higher range figures than WLTP, meaning the vehicle's real-world or WLTP-rated range would be lower.
Even so, a vehicle capable of exceeding 1,000 km under China's testing cycle represents a significant step forward for long-distance EV travel.
Five-Minute Charging Could Change the Game
Range is only part of the story.
BYD has equipped the Da Han with its latest Flash Charging technology, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes.
The company says charging from 10% to 97% takes around nine minutes.
This is one of the most impressive features of the new sedan because it addresses one of the biggest concerns surrounding electric vehicles: charging time.
Instead of spending 30 minutes or more at a fast charger, drivers could potentially recover a substantial amount of driving range during a very short stop.
BYD is also expanding its high-power charging infrastructure in China, with the company planning to build 20,000 Flash Charging stations by the end of 2026.
Up to 570 kW of Electric Power
The Da Han is not simply a long-range luxury sedan.
It also offers serious performance.
The rear-wheel-drive version uses a single electric motor producing up to 370 kW, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model combines the front and rear motors to deliver up to 570 kW, equivalent to approximately 764 horsepower.
The AWD flagship can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 270 km/h.
That gives the Da Han performance figures that place it firmly in premium performance-sedan territory.
Large Luxury Sedan
The Da Han is a substantial vehicle.
It measures approximately:

Its long wheelbase is designed to provide generous passenger space, particularly for rear-seat occupants.

Luxury Interior With 31-Speaker Audio
Inside, the Da Han takes a clear step into the premium segment.
The sedan features a high-end cabin with Nappa leather, zero-gravity front seats and extensive comfort functions.
The front seats offer ventilation, heating and massage functions, while the rear seats are designed to provide additional support and legroom for passengers.
One of the standout technology features is a 31-speaker Devialet audio system, giving the Da Han one of the most elaborate factory sound systems in BYD's lineup.
The cabin also features multiple digital displays and advanced connectivity technologies.
LiDAR and Advanced Driver Assistance
Technology extends beyond the cabin.
The Da Han is equipped with LiDAR hardware and BYD's advanced driver-assistance technology, known as the God's Eye system.
The system is designed to support assisted driving functions in different road environments.
The sedan also features rear-wheel steering, which can make a vehicle of this size easier to maneuver in tighter urban environments.
BYD has also equipped the Da Han with advanced suspension technology designed to improve ride comfort and handling.

The initial Da Han EV lineup consists of three versions.

The prices are equivalent to roughly $36,800–$41,700 USD, although international pricing would vary significantly depending on taxes, specifications and market positioning.
A Serious Challenge to Premium EV Brands
The Da Han could become one of BYD's most important models as the company attempts to move deeper into the premium automotive market.
Its combination of range, charging speed, performance and technology puts it against a wide variety of premium electric sedans.
But BYD has another advantage: price.
Starting at 249,900 yuan, the Da Han offers a very large luxury sedan with more than 1,000 km of claimed CLTC range without entering the ultra-expensive luxury-car category.
That pricing strategy could put pressure on established premium EV manufacturers in China.
The Da Han Is More Than Just a Long-Range EV
The significance of the Da Han goes beyond its 1,008 km range figure.
The car demonstrates how quickly electric vehicles are evolving in three areas that have traditionally been major weaknesses:
Range.
More than 1,000 km CLTC reduces the need for frequent charging during long journeys.
Charging speed.
The ability to charge from 10% to 70% in about five minutes brings EV charging closer to the convenience of conventional refueling.

With up to 570 kW from the dual-motor system, the Da Han offers performance that would have been unusual for a large electric sedan only a few years ago.
Could the BYD Da Han Come to Global Markets?
For now, the Da Han has been introduced in China, and BYD has not confirmed a global launch for the model.
International availability would depend on market regulations, charging infrastructure, pricing and demand.
If BYD eventually exports the Da Han to markets such as Europe, Australia or the Middle East, its combination of long range and rapid charging could make it a particularly interesting competitor.
For now, the car remains primarily a Chinese-market flagship.

The BYD Da Han EV represents a major step in BYD's push into the premium electric-car market.
With more than 1,000 km of claimed CLTC range, extremely fast charging, up to 764 horsepower, LiDAR-based driver assistance and a luxury-focused interior, the Da Han offers a package that would have been difficult to imagine at this price point only a few years ago.
Its biggest test will now be how customers respond once deliveries begin and whether BYD eventually decides to bring the flagship sedan to international markets.
For the global EV industry, however, one thing is already clear: ultra-fast charging and very long-range electric vehicles are moving rapidly from expensive technology demonstrations toward mass-produced cars.
