Leaked images of the 2027 Lexus NX reveal its new design

 

The facelifted 2027 Lexus NX has appeared in its first leaked images, revealing the car's features ahead of its official unveiling. This ends the wait for the Japanese brand to showcase significant updates to its popular SUV, nearly five years after the launch of the second generation.

Lexus began testing the updated version earlier this year, with prototypes spotted on public roads and at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. The leaked images now reveal further details about the anticipated design.

The 2027 Lexus NX features a sharper front design

The leaked official images show the new front fascia, confirming a sharper front end than the current model thanks to a redesigned grille and new headlights with updated daytime running lights. Modifications to the bumper and air intakes are also visible, while the car retains the overall design language of the current generation.

At the rear, the 2027 NX is expected to receive redesigned taillights and interior graphics, along with minor changes to the rear bumper, while maintaining the basic body shape.

The biggest change, however, may be inside the cabin.

Previous spy photos have revealed a prototype with a significantly different interior than the current design, featuring a new dashboard that adopts a design similar to the new Lexus ES, a larger central screen, and a redesigned instrument cluster and other dashboard elements.

Specialist reports suggest this change could give the NX a more modern and luxurious feel, rather than just minor cosmetic updates. The update could also include new infotainment systems, updated color and trim options, and a restructuring of some trim levels and equipment.

Will the 2027 Lexus NX become a full hybrid?

Mechanically, Lexus remains cautious about revealing official details, but the future of the powertrain is one of the most intriguing aspects of the new model.

The NX is currently available in some markets with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, in addition to a version powered by an internal combustion engine. However, market indicators suggest a shift away from the non-hybrid version, especially given the increasing sales of electrified NX models.

In the United States, sales data for 2026 showed that over three-quarters of NX vehicles sold were hybrid or plug-in hybrid, fueling speculation that the future 2027 Lexus NX lineup could transition to exclusively hybrid systems.

However, there is still no official confirmation that the gasoline engine will be discontinued in all markets, so this remains a matter of speculation until the vehicle is fully unveiled.
